Individuality of expression is the beginning and end of all art.
Goethe

All great art is the work of the whole living creature, body and soul, and chiefly of the soul.
John Ruskin

My own art is a negation of society, an affirmation of the individual, outside all rules and demands of society.
Emile Zola

Dear Readers,

I want to thank every one of our readers for their incredible support and response for our first issue -- it was staggering. We all felt very rewarded and motivated by the wonderful attention our readers gave to all the articles. Please visit our Letters to the Editor page where there is a sampling of the lovely letters we received. They give us the incentive to work hard, stay up late, and strive to be the best magazine on the Internet.

As you can see from our charming cover, we've themed this issue:  It's About Art.  Several weeks ago, as the stories were taking shape and the line-up was forming, I was listening to the Sade CD Stronger than Pride.   The song Nothing Can Come Between Us was on, and the refrain, "It's about Faith, It's about Trust," was playing, and I thought, "Yeah, It's About Art.  That's what all the stories have in common."
To get us all in the art mood, I've chosen the three quotes above. I think they are quite interesting in their definition of what art is, and that they all agree, these three great men of their time, that art and the individual are inseparable. Our stories this month support that belief: no matter the art form, the people we have written about have the burning need to do what they do regardless of rules and convention.
Enjoy the issue! And please let us know what you think! I've been blocking out the next several months' issues, and there's going to be some fabulous articles you are really going enjoy. So please visit us often!
