| When I decided to lead the
March issue with the designs of Heike Jarick, I was scanning the 300
slides she had given me. I was struck by the beauty of the subtle
earth tones Heike had chosen, and by the lyrical line and structure of the
design.
It was then that I was reminded of one of my favorite Mahler masterworks, the song cycle Das Lied Von Der Erde (The Song Of The Earth). I honestly cannot put my finger on the exact connection. Mahler's work is a hymn to nature, and the exquisite archetypal harmonies somehow seemed expressed in Heike's esthetic. The photographs you see here are from Heike's spring 2000 collection. Though young, Heike is a veteran of several prestigious design houses. Her spring collection sings of youth...and, of course, spring. |
